Album Recommendations: Early Hints

I'm actually pretty hesitant to declare how I feel about an album until I'm well familiar with it. I still want to put what I'm listening to on my site somewhere, though, so here's a compromise. These are 140 character first impressions of albums that I know somewhat, but not enough to confidently write a review on. I'm pretty sure my opinion will change on these as they get more spins, so expect the final word in the main review section soon.

The Back Room album art

Editors - The Back Room (2005): Dark, pumping, catchy 80s-by-2000s indie rock, icy guitar stabs and deep vocals. Really ace stuff. The most original, no, but damn striking.

Standout track: "Blood"

Pocket Full of Kryptonite album art

Spin Doctors - Pocket Full of Kryptonite (1991): At its worst, it's the Red Hot Hippie Peppers. If you liked "Two Princes" and "Little Miss", it's all kinda maddeningly like that.

Standout track: "Forty or Fifty"

Temperamental album art

Everything But the Girl - Temperamental (1999): Like a club, a lot of glossy, boomy style, but hard to remember much afterwards. Tracey Thorn's soulful rambles are the best part about it.

Standout track: "Lullaby of Clubland"

Live From the Artists Den album art

Soundgarden - Live From the Artists Den (2019): Even Chris didn't sing like Chris at the end, yeesh! Not a total croakfest, thankfully—good, if kinda routine, performances, and fun banter.

Standout track: "Hunted Down"

Palookaville album art

Fatboy Slim - Palookaville (2004): As fucking bonkers as a Clone Hero mashup. Where does this boy get all these wonderful samples? I HEARD SHEL SILVERSTEIN IN THERE.

Standout track: "Slash Dot Dash"
